Where do I begin with singing lessons?
Begin with a vocal assessment. Use the assessment scheduler to choose an appointment.
The lesson pages explain the two teaching settings, the equipment for virtual study and the work a singing student can expect. If you are exploring the programme before committing to lessons, a PCC membership can be considered separately.
What happens in a singing lesson?
The structure varies with the student’s level and current work. A singing lesson begins with a check-in, a question about the voice or music, and a review of practice. Guided exercises then lead into phrases and the song.
The student sings the complete song with an accompaniment track while the teacher listens. We may try a change across the song or return to individual phrases. The lesson ends with specific practice assignments and relevant asynchronous or performance work.
What do I need for virtual lessons?
You’ll need a PC or Mac with speakers, a webcam and a microphone. A phone or iPad does not meet the setup requirement.
For advanced lessons and Vocal Integration, we recommend an audio interface, an external microphone, speakers, headphones and a keyboard or digital piano connected to the computer through MIDI or USB. The lesson software is provided.
Can I review a virtual lesson afterward?
Yes. Your virtual lesson recording is placed in your Google Drive, and a transcript is emailed to you.
When you practise, you can return to the demonstration or passage from the lesson. The recording and transcript sit alongside the specific assignments your teacher has given you.
Can I study an instrument or songwriting?
Private study includes piano, guitar, theory and songwriting as well as singing. Instrument and theory lessons begin with patterned exercises and written homework, then move into the student’s pieces.
Songwriting sessions focus on lyrics, theory or composition. In advanced sessions, the teacher guides the writer while they build tracks, arrange and orchestrate on their own computer.
When should I expect progress in singing?
For novice singers, early goals over 3–6 months include greater range, pitch accuracy and power. These are goals for the work, with the timeframe depending on starting skill, commitment and progress.
The intermediate and longer-term work develops a more connected voice, endurance, musicianship and a wider range of performance choices. The singing page explains the goals and training windows.
Where are in-person lessons taught?
In-person lessons take place at PCC’s private Manhattan studio, with a grand piano. Mr. Wickham teaches the in-person lessons, which include Premium Training.
The exact location is provided when your lesson is scheduled. Use the Tuition Worksheet for current lesson and membership options.
Should I choose virtual or in person?
Consider the work you want to do, your learning style and your schedule. Virtual study uses your own practice space and computer; in-person study lets the teacher hear your unamplified voice and guide the work in the room.
The comparison page examines equipment, location, convenience, recordings, cost and musical focus side by side.
How is accompaniment handled?
Piano accompaniment supports exercises and short phrases. For a complete song, the student uses a karaoke or accompaniment track so the teacher can concentrate on listening and making notes.
New repertoire comes with the original recording, a Stem4rge accompaniment track and an isolated vocal track for learning. More advanced singing work also includes singing and playing patterns, melodies or self-accompaniment.
Which lesson software is provided?
The provided software includes MIDIculous, a metronome and a digital audio workstation for recording and working with music tracks.
For advanced lessons and Vocal Integration, a keyboard or digital piano with a MIDI or USB connection is recommended alongside the additional audio equipment listed on the Virtual Lessons page.
Are membership and lesson hours separate?
Yes. Membership establishes the PCC account and the resources attached to the selected membership. Private-lesson hours are selected separately.
You can begin with membership and add private lessons later. The Tuition Worksheet explains the current combinations, terms and payment options.
What does BASIC membership include?
BASIC maintains your PCC account and personal materials. Assignments, recordings and materials are held in your Google Drive.
FULL adds asynchronous coaching, study libraries, PCC Salon and other member resources. Lesson hours remain a separate choice. Use the Tuition Worksheet for the current terms and options.
What can I do with FULL membership?
Submit practice recordings for feedback, bring material to PCC Salon and explore performance opportunities. The planned PCC Music Library includes an interactive Vocal Exercises Library with audio and video exercises organized by level and training goal. Full Membership or Tuition will be required; the Student Portal is not built yet. Ask the instructor about materials currently assigned for study.
FULL also includes access to scheduled member events and the DUET lesson format. Private-lesson tuition remains separate from membership.
Can I join before choosing private lessons?
Yes. A membership-only option is available in the Tuition Worksheet, and private lessons can be added later.
If you are still exploring the programme, read how the coaching, study materials and Salon work before choosing the membership that fits your plans.
How does asynchronous coaching work?
You receive assignments and exercises, record your work in audio or video and exchange one-to-one feedback with a coach between appointments. The conversation takes place in shorter exchanges rather than one continuous lesson.
Materials are held in your Google Drive, with communication through email or WhatsApp. The assignments give you a specific task to record and revisit as you continue practising. Asynchronous coaching is part of FULL membership.
What is in the Music Library?
The library brings together sheet music, original recordings, accompaniment and guide tracks for the repertoire you are studying.
Read from the score, listen to the original performance, study an isolated voice or piano melody, and sing with the accompaniment. The planned PCC Music Library and interactive audio and video Vocal Exercises Library will require Full Membership or Tuition. Exercises will be organized by level and training goal. The Student Portal is not built yet; current study materials are assigned through the instructor.
Can I request music in another key?
Yes. Transpositions can be requested for the sheet music you are studying.
The sheet music belongs alongside the recording and accompaniment for your repertoire. The Music Library page explains how these materials support work on the song.
How are private-lesson hours used?
A lesson package is a bank of coaching time. Time is deducted as it is used, rather than making the package a fixed weekly appointment.
Session length can be chosen to suit the work: a shorter appointment for focused preparation or a longer session for more extensive work. The Tuition Worksheet gives the current package and contract rules.
Where are prices and membership terms explained?
The Tuition Worksheet contains current lesson and membership prices, enrollment options, payment information, pauses and cancellation terms.
Use that worksheet when choosing a plan. If you have a question about a particular option, contact PCC before enrolling.
How do DUET lessons work?
Two singers share an in-person session with Mr. Wickham. They warm up together, then take turns receiving individual repertoire and technique coaching while the other singer observes. When working on duet repertoire, they can work together through the session.
Students can ask questions and discuss technique and artistry. Critical observations come from the coach. The Tuition Worksheet explains the current access and booking terms.
What can I bring to PCC Salon?
Bring a song in progress, original lyrics or music, a monologue or a scene. Mr. Wickham guides the group’s performance work and feedback.
Salon meets as scheduled. Dates, times and location are announced for each gathering, and FULL membership includes access to scheduled Salons. The Free Class invitation is an opportunity to come to Salon.
Are other group classes scheduled?
PCC Salon is the confirmed recurring group programme. Workshops and the songwriting class are to be announced.
Workshops focus on particular subjects through lectures or demonstrations. The songwriting curriculum connects lyrics, melody, harmony and arranging with the writer’s own work.
What happens in a songwriting session?
A session may focus on lyrics, theory or composition. In lyric and composition work, the writer brings the previous week’s output and assignments for study, then develops the piece through exercises and revision.
In advanced sessions, the teacher guides the writer on their computer while they build tracks, arrange and orchestrate. Playback allows an individual voice or sound to be examined as part of the arrangement.
Where can I look for performance opportunities?
NY Open Mics is the destination for open mics and related performance opportunities. NY Casting Couch is for auditions, and NY Stage Search is for shows.
PCC Salon offers a separate setting to bring work in progress to the student community. The Events page brings those destinations together.
